About Us - The Story

The Beginning

DenRad Technical Group (DTG)  was founded 1979 by Wayne Mathews (N5FPD).  Early weather radar systems adapted marine, and similar radar systems, which were intensity modulated, stronger reflections were brighter, black and white systems. DTG developed a colorizer for these radar systems to produce colors based on the intensity, similar to what is seen today. DTG marketed these weather radar colorizers to TV, radio stations, and Civil Defense locations in the U.S.  In addition, DTG produced custom digital map overlays for the radar ranges. This early colorizing innovation provided a better understanding of the weather situation that did not fade like the original intensity displays. During this time, Wayne Morris (AC5V), a college student, joined DTG.

In 1981, DTG was contracted to develop an automated, field portable telephone cable test system. The system was to be microprocessor based, automatically tested 25 cable pair groups for a wide range of electrical measurements, analyze the data, and print the information on in built-in thermal printer. The available test equipment at the time was manual and required the technician to analyze the data. The system was also able to connect to the telephone office to obtain additional test data such as the telephone number on the line.  The system was named the Cable Analysis System (CAS) 2000. Guided by Industrial Innovations Inc. and its founder, the product was targeted for cable pair recovery and splicing operations.

DTG was reorganized and became Allied Analogic, Inc. (AALogic) in 1998. The CAS2000 and the 1000 pair DaVaR expanded version were very successful in all major telephone companies and use throughout the United States and Parts of Canada.  AALogic continued to innovate microprocessor-based test equipment and support devices for outside telephone plant testing and operations including fault location and communications over copper pairs.

With the end of wireline Telecom in sight, the time came to shift focus. The two principals, Wayne Mathews and Wayne Morris both Extra class amateur radio operators, continued to collaborate as products shifted toward Amateur Radio.
